🏖
North vs South Goa

North Goa (Calangute, Baga, Anjuna) is louder, livelier and cheaper — perfect for first-timers who want beach shacks, nightlife and easy transport.

South Goa (Palolem, Agonda, Colva) is quieter, cleaner and more scenic. Better for couples and anyone wanting to actually relax on a beach without a DJ.

Our take: spend 2 nights in the north to experience it, then shift south for the remainder of your trip.

🍤
What to eat

Goa is not just seafood (though the seafood is exceptional). Must-tries: prawn balchão, fish thali at a local joint, beef croquettes, and bebinca for dessert.

For cheap and good: eat where the sign is in Konkani and the menu has no photos. The best prawn curry in Goa is never at a beach-facing restaurant.

Avoid: the "continental breakfast" at any place that calls itself a resort.

🚗
Getting around

Rent a scooter — it is the only way to actually explore Goa. Insurance is included with reputable rentals. Expect to pay ₹300–400/day.

Taxis are expensive and unmetered. Always negotiate before getting in. The Goa Miles app is better than hailing.

The state bus service (Kadamba) connects major towns cheaply but runs infrequently. Good for Panaji to Margao.

📅
When to go

October to March is the dry season — beaches are clean, weather is pleasant (28–32°C), and everything is open.

December and January are peak season: prices spike 2–3x, beaches are crowded, and you need to book accommodation months ahead.

April–May is hot (35°C+) and some beach shacks close. June–September is monsoon — most of Goa shuts down, but it is beautiful if you like the rain and hate crowds.

Goa travel FAQ.

When is the cheapest time to fly to Goa?

Which airline is cheapest for Delhi to Goa?

For December–January peak season, book 2–3 months ahead. For other months, 3–6 weeks is usually sufficient to get a good price without paying peak-demand rates.
Is Goa safe?
Yes, Goa is one of India's safest tourist destinations. Standard precautions apply: don't leave valuables on the beach, be aware of rip currents, and use reputable transport at night.
Do I need a visa for Goa?
No visa is needed for Indian citizens — Goa is a state in India. Foreign nationals visiting Goa need an Indian visa: the India e-Tourist Visa (applied for online at indianvisaonline.gov.in) covers citizens of 160+ countries, with 30-day, 1-year and 5-year options. The 30-day e-Visa costs around USD 25 (about USD 10 in the April–June promotional window). Your passport must be valid for 6+ months with 2 blank pages.
