Asia's most efficient city-state. Compare flights and hotels from 200+ platforms — Singapore rewards the smart traveller.
Gardens by the Bay Outdoor: the Supertree Grove and Cloud Forest exterior are free — stunning at night when the Supertree light show runs at 7:45pm and 8:45pm.
Merlion Park, Marina Bay waterfront walk, Chinatown (Pagoda Street), Little India (Serangoon Road), and the Singapore Botanic Gardens (UNESCO World Heritage Site) cost nothing.
Sentosa Island: the cable car and Universal Studios cost money, but Siloso Beach and the boardwalk are free. Take the Sentosa Express (SGD 4, ₹250) from VivoCity.
Singapore's hawker centres are UNESCO-listed and arguably the best food culture in Southeast Asia. Chicken rice, laksa, char kway teow, roti prata, and chilli crab (expensive, but mandatory) are the essentials.
Top centres: Maxwell Food Centre (Tian Tian chicken rice is famous but the queue is long — the stall next door is just as good), Lau Pa Sat (evening satay street), Newton Food Centre (tourist-friendly, prices reflect it).
Budget: SGD 5–12 (₹310–750) for a full hawker meal. You can eat exceptionally well in Singapore for ₹500/day on food if you eat like a local.
Singapore's MRT is one of the best metro systems in the world — clean, punctual, air-conditioned and comprehensive. Buy an EZ-Link card at any MRT station (SGD 12 including SGD 7 credit). Single trips cost SGD 0.92–2.50.
Buses fill the gaps the MRT misses. The same EZ-Link card works on buses. Google Maps handles Singapore's public transport very accurately.
Taxis (Grab is the local app) are more expensive than the MRT but not unreasonable by Indian metro standards. Airport to city: approximately SGD 20–30 (₹1,250–1,875).
3 days covers the highlights: Marina Bay and Gardens (Day 1), Sentosa (Day 2), and Chinatown / Little India / Clarke Quay (Day 3).
4–5 days allows a day trip to Johor Bahru in Malaysia (take the bus, SGD 3 each way — exchange rate is favourable and food is cheaper), plus time to explore neighbourhoods like Tiong Bahru and Katong.
Singapore works well as a stopover from Bali, Bangkok or Sydney — Changi Airport has an incredibly designed transit area including a free city tour for connections over 5.5 hours.
